Engine Shuts Off

Asked by flashin Nov 01, 2013 at 05:51 AM about the 2002 Audi A4 1.8T quattro AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello ,

My car has this problem , the engine shuts off when it is cold , transmission is  manumatic-
tiptronic , it shuts off in every gear (P/D/R) , local auto-service told me that it might be an issue of
Mass air flow sensor , so I tried to change it but the problem was the same , I changed it twice (
bought newer ones ) , the problem was the same , but when I try to plug it off the problem goes
away and car works good , I tried to check car for diagnostic codes but there is no error code ,
actually this problem appears in cold weather , when the engine is really cold , the car had no
problem during summer , but appeared now ( had this problem last year also ) ,

I tried to search online about similar problems but can`t really guess what is the problem ,

So main guess was Mass air flow sensor but i changed it twice and problem was the same , I
tried different gasoline , cleaned throttles ,

Please give me some advice , I was at 3-4 auto-service , no one really helped , everyone
suggested that it was problem of Mass air flow sensor but after changing it they were out of ideas
, if you had some similar problems please suggest how to fix it

Thanks in advance

I had simaler problem with a98 a8l found loose wire going to ecm on one of the plugins, we would start car open pass door and shut it and it would stall, after some checking took top off ecm box and moved some wires around, found one loose wire in one plugin.

Same to my car, it could not start when the weather is really cold. There is a button fuel presurised at behind engine, click on it few times the gas pull out and start your car again.
