GM 5.4l problems

Asked by Nov 07, 2016 at 04:00 PM about the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 GMC z71 that sporadically doesn't
like to fire. It may go months having no issues than
out of nowhere I'll get in it and crank it and it will not
fire. When it does this usually it will eventually crank
after 20-30 minutes and run fine, making it very
hard to pin point the problem. Any suggestions as
to what it could be? Would the ignition module be a
likely suspect?? Like I said it will happen out of the
blue after months with no problems.

Does this happen when it is humid or raining? If so you should check all the electrical connections and use a dielectric grease to seal out moisture.

No this has never happened when it's been raining or humid. Very strange

I would try and clean all the connections in case there is any corrosion.
