why does my trans. not shift up out of 1st with engine rpms increase

when you floor it and let off it stats in 1st gear if your stopped on a incline it acts like it slips

Check the fluid first, is it at the proper level?

Check for vacuum leaks or dirty fluid, if necessary after checking Vac change the fluid.
