I have a 1993 gmc Sierra 2wd and the trans
want go in first it will go in second if you pull
it down to 2 with they shifter but not first put
it in drive it go's to 4th gear and stays even
sitting still but if my battery dies and I jump
it of the trans works for just a min just fine
but then quits again any pointers?

Sounds like it's time for it to be re-built. Take it to a trany shop for proper diagnosis.
