Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The alternator is loose and ready to go but I cannot get the oil dipstick tube out in order
to create enough space to get it out. I have removed the mounting bolt, and plastic tie
to the wiring harness but it wont budge. I tried prying up on the bracket but it wont
budge. I also tried from underneath the car using a screwdriver and mallet to pop it up
but again no movement. Am I missing something? I thought these were held in by only
an o-ring but mine won't budge.  The van has 200k miles on it.

What you trying to get out? The alt or the dip stick? The dipstick is a pressed fit best way to remove it is heating the block but you shouldn't need to remove it to get the salt out. They are held usually with three bolts bottom one is hidden.
