my battery gage is marking low on my 1992 chrysler labaron would cause check your engine light to go on . what is itelling me alternator is going out?

It is possible that the battery or alternator is bad. Take it to a Autozone or O'reillys Auto Parts and get the battery and alternator checked. Also the belt that runs the alternator could be slipping.
