Purge Valve for 2006 Ford Expedition

My 2006 Ford Expedition was running beautifully when I bought it used but
w/in a mth it slowly started getting less mpg. Then I noticed sometimes I had
to turn key twice to start it & then it got to 3 times & I had to pat gas. Then
Emissions Control Light came on, it started idling low & driving rough &
finally some smoke when I 1st started it. I changed out the PURGE VALVE
but it is still not driving correctly-What could it be?
