I have a 94' Ford Ranger XLT with the 3.0 engine in it, now my Papaw has a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT and its a 3.0 in it too, so let me get this straight, as long the VIN # letter matches, can I use it?

No. A 1994 model is OBD I. A 2002 model is OBD II. They're completely different computer command control systems. HTH. -Jim
