Check the serpentine belt area and determine where exactly the noise is coming from. I suspect the serpentine belt, tensioner or pulley/bearing of one of the other components.

tom the serpentine belt was removed and when i started the engine the noise was still there..the noise is coming from within the engine itself? i read about it and the information i gathered all seem to link to the timing chain...my worry is that.. is it ok to replace just the timing chain ?
