1974 Corvette hood
Does anyone know how to get a stuck 1974
Corvette stingray hood open? I recenty got one and
am going to fix it. However, the hood release cord
is snapped from inside the car and I can't get the
latches to release. I attempted to get them
unlatched through the plugs in the windshield
wiper well, but had no such luck. Any suggestions?
There is a cable that runs from one side to the other side of the hood that releases to clasping mechanisms that grip onto the bullet shaped protruding vertical metal fastening clamp retainers I would suggest that with the mirror you look underneath where the Cowell area is The Neath the area where the wipers are there is a mesh with the mirror you might be able to locate the cable that goes from one side to the other in which case you can get a tool like a with a hook on it to pull the cable
If you can't find the cable to pull under the hood, Chevy dealers have a tool that allows them to grab the cable of the hood releases and pull it. In the early days of the C-2 and C-3 Corvettes, it was common for the cable to break or come lose. Also if the cable is broken under the dash, try grabbing with a players and pulling it if you can reach it. Have fun. Save the beer for after you get it open though.
