I have a Camry that does that. Ive been told there is an oil leak around the rings, which is around the lower part of the piston. If it only does it after having sat a few hours or more, then stops after a few seconds, that is most likely the problem. Ive also been told that while it's an easy problem to fix in itself, fixing it requries getting into the engine, which can be very costly. So the cost of fixing the problem may prove to be more than what the car is even worth. And a couple of mechanics told me that it shouldn't be any problem to the car. Its always passed inspection and it has been doing this for maybe 3 years. So the only issue you really have with it is simply the embarrassment of having your car blow alot of smoke. I am not a mechanic, so just releating what ive been told about my car.

it's pretty normal for me because i have a 15 year old car with a 3rd-owned engine... happens only when i startup in the morning when the engine is cold AND only during cold and rainy wather..afterwards i dont see smoke the whole day even from constant stop n go..i dont have any similar problems during the summer or any hot day...

mine is always white... and it only happens in the morning or during a cold, rainy day... so i guess you just have to find out the color of the smoke and it'll answer your question...then again, it aint bad after all... :-)

its the fuel pump. it activates as you start the car. if there is a check engine light, it goes of after 2 seconds when you start. it means that the pump is working. its not the fan. most vehicles today rely on electronics to tell if the engine or radiator is hot then activates the fan for a while. and it stops when the temp reading is cold enough for a normal running temp.
