Car will start and idle perfectly fine soon as give it

IAT intake air temperature...in the intake plenum...assure that it works properly~ your system ground may be weak...check that battery to make sure that it's full strength after 8-10 years they don't take a charge anymore....to there's that...and the cable ends get corroded...and the black cable to the engine may be weak corroded stud there~ sometimes solutions are as easy as a wirebrush~
the year would tell me what to look for in terms of your fuel problem...a squishy low volume pump up to a carburetor has different equipment then a 80-90 PSI injector...see I have to know what to look for here~
If it is carbureted clean with spray carburetor cleaner use the whole can and if fuel injected clean throttle with throttle body cleaner and and some fuel injector cleaner to gas tank. Also change fuel filter if have not done so in a while.
my 2001 ford focus would start and idle in park or neutral, but as soon as I put in rev or drive it died immediately. I did a number of things, but nothing helped until I got a new ECU. Before buying an ECU check to see if the existing ECU is reading the correct voltage at the ECU pin numbers for the transmission solenoids. Junk it and buy a Toyota! Also check vacuum lines.
heat riser...assure that it's correct...could easily be disconnected~
