sterring column mod. so to make tilt
1964 t bird
i need to have some kind of mod for sterring tilt or swing away
and some way to lower height driver seat
Swing-a-way was an available option on both the Thunberbird and Galaxy, if I remember correctly. Don't know if tilt and swing-a-way were available together. You'll need to change the column. Try ebay or other Thunderbird sites. Hopefully someone has a column for sale. As for lowering the driver's seat I really don't know. Again perhaps someone on a Thunderbird site can point you in the right direction. Good luck. HTH. -Jim
There is no reference to a "Tilt" steering column in the 60-66 T-Bird catalogs. The only one available is the "Swing-Away". Maybe you can modify one from another model car but it is doubtful. The Bird seats frames are as low as they will go. You might be able to have an upholstery shop rebuild your seats and pick up another inch or inch and half.
This model thunderbird had tilt-away steering column that was not adjustable for up/down; Since you are not dealing with an airbag, you may have the option of simply installing a smaller diameter steering wheel from an aftermarket supplier.
