I'm having trouble getting engine to start. It cranks but does not begin to run.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,

I have a 1984 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 5.0 4d Sedan style car. I have been
unable to get the car to start though. When I crank the engine, it does turn
over but it does not continue running. I listened at the gas tank and I can
hear the fuel pump working, and I know there is gas in there. At the TBI, I am
never seeing any fuel spray out though. Does anyone have any ideas on
what I can try next? I hook it up to a jumper box so there is plenty of power
to the battery and I am not getting any indicator lights on the dash board. I'm
trying to get this car ready to give to my Dad as a present (he used to drive
one when I was a kid) and I just don't have the money to take it to a shop to
be repaired. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

I'd suggest looking at the crankshaft position sensor. The EEC (Electronic Engine Control) needs to see that the engine is cranking before the fuel injectors are triggered to start spraying. If the crankshaft position sensor is bad the EEC won't see that the engine is cranking. Hope that helps! Jim
