1987 Buick Regal limited door/ lock problems.

Asked by Jan 13, 2016 at 06:28 PM about the Buick Regal

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1987 Buick Regal Limited with power locks.   Passenger side door is a mess.  Plastic/ metal type outside door handle is cracked and loose, and won't open door now !  Drivers side door has been a problem as well, sticking / or not opening from the outside at times.  Now with the temp dropping in the mid west both doors won't open at all.   Locks seem like there working and not frozen, and AAA came out and was able to reach inside door release handle and move them to the open position.  And both doors still won't open ! !  Used blow dryer , De-icer, heated key etc.....STILL won't open ! !   Anyone have any input ?????    At my wits end ! ! ! !

Cracked and loose door handles will not have the throw on the inside levers for pulling on the latch release. Need to get the door handles replaced and linkage adjusted to proper working order.

O.K. but how do I get in the car to begin with ??????

Well thats a good one. If by being able to pull on the inside door handles and they still will not open, without causing damage may not be an option.

Both doors stuck. Passenger at purchase and drivers with last snow/ice storm. Can't get in to try inside handles.

Thanks anyway, rowefast. AAA sent a locksmith and they couldn't even get in. I refuse to pay for an unneeded oil change or something somewhere to get someone to look at it, and it just seems like with my small amount of experience I should be able to figure this one out. Argh. Cheers tho.

You have had people try to get in it, they make DE-icier sprays for ice, never used them tho, sounds like the car needs to get somewhere warm. There is not much you can do but to break in or thaw it out.
