New Chevrolet Bolt terrible range

Asked by Dave Mar 31, 2020 at 05:21 PM about the Chevrolet Bolt EV

Question type: General

We just bought a new 2020 Chevy Bolt.  We traded in a 2017 that we loved!
When we ran the heat on our 2017 it dropped our range by about 4-7 miles
depending on the amount of range we had left.  And speed etc.

On the drive home we started with 269 miles of range.  It is 50 degrees here.
No terribly cold.  We drove about 25 miles and got home with 196 miles of
range!  We ran the heat.  Turning the heat on/off we found heat was "costing"
us about 30-35 miles of range.  I called the dealer who said this was "normal."
that the computer had to figure out our driving.

I don't remember our 2017 ever have this kind of range discrepancy.  We can
return the car within 3 days.  But we love our new car, with the new battery etc.
Help, is that "normal?"

The car's computer takes time to learn, it's not very bright. Once you have enough miles on it, the calculations should be more in line with what you expect. You could have the dealer mechanic review it, but he's likely correct.
