I have a 86 Volkswagen golf it wont start.
I just got a 86 Volkswagen golf and it was driving the other day. I lost my key so I had to pull the ignition so I could even get it here, it was running fine the other day but now when I try to start it it wont eventry and turn over. when I try nothing happens it just beeps at me... can someone please help im not used to working on cars so some expert help would be great
Sounds like a weak battery or a bad starter. If you're turning the key and nothing is happening, most likely it's one of the two. Since you just got the car, I am guessing that you have no idea how old the battery is. If the battery is not a maintenance free battery, pop the caps on the top and see if the water levels are touching the tabs. You may have dry cells. If battery is a maintenance free one, put some jumper cables on it and see if you can get the engine to turn over. If it turns over with a jump, you need a new battery. If it still does nothing with a jump, I would say the starter is bad.
