Brake lights wont work even after
new replacement bulbs installed

you need a multi tester to see where you have power/ground and where you don't , old worn sockets can send a ground somewhere and do weird stuf , see if you have power and ground at the sockets and work your way back , brake lights may run through the directional switch if they are on a shared bulb , thats an old truck and anything is possible even mice ! !
