Rain leaking inside

Asked by Rena Feb 14, 2019 at 12:10 PM about the 2007 GMC Acadia

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 07 Acadia leaks every time it rains hard. When I turn
corners I can hear the water swish from one side of the car to
the other. From the inside on the roof I can see water spots
along the drivers and passengers door and along areas of the
windshield. It leaks from the sun visor (both sides), the
garage door opening area, the handles on the sides and
where it says airbags. I had it looked at by our local
window/windshield guys and they said it wasn't leaking from
the front windshield. Has anyone had this happen or have
suggestions? I'm about to duct tape my sunroof to see if
that's the culprit.  My floor mats are soaked because of all
the rain coming inside! When I go down my driveway all the
water floods forward and lands on the dash and my head. It's
awful.

It is your sunroof drain. There is a tube (maybe 2 - one one either side) that runs from the cavity that the sunroof sits in to the ground and is supposed to remove all the moisture that accumulates up there. The seal around the sunroof is not water tight and all sunroof equipped vehicles have them. Open the sunroof and look in the front corners. You should see a hole where the water should drain into, Pour some water in and observe. If it does not drain, the tubing is plugged and can probably be cleared out by blowing air from a compressor down the tube. If it does drain but does not make it down to the ground under your vehicle, then the tubing has come loose somewhere in between and needs to be reconnected.

We had the exact same problem. Turns out it was our moon roof that was leaking. Bought a tube of sealant for $12 sealed the moon roof and haven't had a problem since!!
