2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Issue When It's Hot Outside

Asked by GuruTS34T Jul 01, 2018 at 12:02 PM about the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7l V8 that has issues when it gets
hot outside.  The car has issues accelerating and shifting gears and will jerk
you back and forth.  Don't have any issues at all in the mornings or during the
winter months.  Have had a couple of mechanics look at it and the consensus
seems to be that it might be a sensor issue.  It is not showing any codes at all.
Has anyone had similar issues in the past?  Any recommendations on which
sensor it could be?  Thanks.

It could be related to the trans fluid, especially if the valve body and/or shift solenoids are dirty. If it were sensor related computer diagnostics would have indicated which ones. (an O2 sensor might be heat-affected, but that doesn't seem to be your case.) I'd try taking it to a dedicated transmission shop for a flush and filter change, they can test valve body and solenoids for operation, and make sure trans cooler (if you have one) is in good shape.

Have 2007 JGC Limited with exact same problem. Check fuel injectors. When injectors get plugged they dump fuel and only some pistons fire correctly. No issue in cool mornings or late evenings when it's cooler out. When it gets hot outside it bucks and jerks so check fuel line injectors..
