Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Good day. I have Passat b5+. The car goes normal during the day and I
have no issue while starting it, meanwhile in the morning when I try to start
the car here is what happens.

It will never be started from very 1st attempt, the starts are taken but the
engine won't start.

From Second up to 5 or 7 times even 10 times here what will happen.

The car will start and immediately shut down. I am lucky enough  if I get car
even going because eventually at the end battery will die after so many
attempts and I have to give power to the battery through another car..

I've changed the water sensor. Weird thing is that by the VIN code the water
sensor comes GREEN but the one it has  on it is BLACK. I bought black but
it and still same issue. I use metan gas (air gas) but car normally drives
under petrol if the engine is started so I don't think it is fuel pump.

Any ideas? Important to notice that I have EPC and Airbag Fault codes on
my dashboard.

This sounds like the VVT solenoid. Could be your cam position sensor as well. I assume it's the 1.8T in this car? If it's the VR6 it has a lot of the same issues. Sounds like you have a timing problem.

Thanks a lot for answering. It is Passat 2.0 simple engine v4. Sometimes it will be on within 3 attempts in the mornings sometimes within 10 attempts. Today here is what have happened. I've tried 5 times and all 5 times the engine will start and go off immediatelly. After that I've tried to just turn on the key 5 times on and of without giving a spark. After which I've tried to start engine and it has started. RPM got buzzed for maybe 7 seconds and engine shut off again, only after that the engine got up and running. I was assuming it could be fuel pump, but we are excluding this? Here is what I tried today and was sure it wasn't an issue - Battery replacement. I've put brand new battery and it was acting just as same. So battery isn't the one. If it's a timing issue, then I must be able to get engine started with 100 attempts of key only being open and closed and only after that give a spark? Am I right?

Or at least what is some workaround to use before I get to repair it? Why I'm not taking this to specialist? Lol well you could ask this and answer is that - Who is specialist? Oh the car specialist? Well...we don't have any! None can give correct info...some forced me to replace water sensor, some said it is battery issue and etc..none helped...

Can you hook up an OBD-2 scanner? I bet you have some stored trouble codes and that would help you sort it out without throwing parts at it.
