Truck starting problem

Asked by Apr 28, 2016 at 06:37 PM about the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck was starting fine, suddenly it only starts every third try. Did this once
before and found a fried wire on starter. Rain has kept me out from under truck
so I haven't been able to check starter. Could this be caused by a short
somewhere else?

the main Ground cables off the battery (newish) need to have NO corrosion...the Black cable and the Red cable....both should be making sure connections~ there are two large 30 amp cables...one for the chassis/ground (believe this is the trouble one) and one to the motor block...you need that amperage to kick over your starter motor...is the grounding happens elsewhere you get your "fried wire"~ make sense...clean engine block (or a/c bracket) and to the car's Frame...both will assure the juice for the goose~
