How do I get access to the odometer cable to grease it?

Asked by Nov 11, 2013 at 11:25 AM about the 1980 Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The odometer cable makes a lot of noise when the car is cold and when it is moving.  No noise from this area other-wise.  I assume it is the odometer cable.  I found the cable, but don't know how to get it loose.

At the transmission, unscrew the outer casing and pull the cable assembly out of the transmission. You'll need a grease gun and special adapter for it. Talk to an older counter person at your local auto parts store for this. You'll use the grease gun to force grease up through the cable assembly. HTH. -Jim
