Asked by Neil Mar 02, 2020 at 12:54 PM about the 1963 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've started this question elsewhere but need to check something specific. I
have what sounds like a tappet/lifter noise, the garage says replacing the lifters
won't stop the noise as I need to adjust the rocker/pushrod/lifter from the top, i
can't see how as they are fixed rockers, etc, am I correct? 1963 ford 390
hydraulic lifters ford FE motor?    help

hello, what weight oil are you using...if the cam is ok,...good lobe.... you could try and add 1 / 2 qt of atf to the oil and run it for a short time to see if it pumps back up...you sure you dont have a broken spring??? bad push rod?? replacing a lifter is not hard..if all looks good you could try an after market longer push rod..there is even a after market push rod itself that you can adjust.
