'55 Thunderbird Transmission Problems

Asked by Dec 30, 2016 at 12:35 PM about the 1955 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Transmission pump failed, shop said and arc inside the transmission causing
metal shards to accumulate in the pump causing it to fail.  Shop is blaming
the 6/12V battery system on the arc stating will not guarantee work unless
we convert to straight 12V system. I don't believe the battery system is
causing this issue, any thoughts or suggestions as to what this could be? I
would really like to keep this car as original as possible.

Shop around. There's places on the web and in Hemmings Motor News Magazine that specialize in vintage transmission work. A regular transmission shop will have absolutely no idea of what their even looking at! HTH. -Jim
