Yes, the correct name for it is a continental kit. They were popular back in the 80s. Hope that helps! Jim

Named for the Lincoln Continental back in the 40's. This was also used on the early T-Bird and as an aftermarket kit on cars in the 50's and early 60's.

We have one as well. It is not a kit where the wheel is mounted on the back of the trunk after manufacturing. It is on the top of the trunk and was made factory according to the guy we got it from. I very rarely find anyone with this car and have yet to find an accurate appraisal.

You have been fed BS Linda. This does not add value.

It's a matter of taste. Back in those days you did see them on Bustleback Sevilles more frequently than other GM makes. Roadster tops were in vogue too. Some people liked the extra trim and found them stylish. While others found it gaudy. Just depends on your preferences. From a collector's point of view it may add a few hundred dollars to the value of the vehicle because it is unusual to see it on a Monte Carlo. But that's about it. Some may consider it a detracting feature because of the unavailability of replacement parts if the trunk lid ever got damaged. Talk to your local antique auto insurance company about it. They would know for sure. I'd be curious as to what they say. Hope that helps! Jim

I would say 95% of buyers won't even consider such a car. Obviously a few people like the look.

I agree. Back in those days people who drove Cadillacs would be more inclined to make a statement when arriving at the Country Club or a Board Meeting, or other social event. They were executives who had lots of money and wanted everyone to know it. People who drove Chevys were workaday people who didn't go in for such things. They probably didn't have the money for extras that really served no purpose. They wanted a vehicle for going to work, the grocery store, and other everyday things. So in the collector's world I think you still have that kind of thinking, to some degree. Vintage Cadillac owners send their cars out for repairs and restoration. Vintage Chevy owners work on their own cars. They're different types of people. Jim
