My 83 Chevy Impala won't start. I have tried pumping the gas while starting it, i it does is act like its going to start, and i did get it to start pumped the gas and then it shut off , whats wrong with my car? PLEASE HELP ME!!

You don't say what engine, I believe that is carbureted. It sounds like a fuel problem. try some starting fluid or 2 or 3 tablespoons of gas poured into the top of the carb,(open the choke) with a finger or screwdriver, the choke plate should move easily. if it starts and runs for a minute then quits its probably a fuel pump
