My '93 suburban misfires

Asked by Aug 21, 2015 at 04:52 PM about the 1993 Chevrolet C/K 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All plugs are firing and the motor is timed
correctly. Some plugs are wer tho... The
truck has lack of power and backfires out
the intake when revving. Compression is
between 175 and 200 for all 8... Another
clue is after several weeks of driving the
brand new cap and rotor is extremely
corroded. Again i replaced all plugs, wires
n cap n rotor. Same issue is there...

Sounds like a lean air/fuel mixture (vacuum leak or not enough gas) or the ignition timing is severely retarded due to a faulty knock sensor. Does your Suburban have a valve tap? If so the knock sensor may be picking it up and retarding the ignition timing. Is it running hot? Pull a couple of the spark plugs and inspect the tips (electrodes). Are they white? If so it's a lean air/fuel mixture. Is the check engine light or service engine soon light on? If so, what codes do you have? HTH. -Jim
