Hello awheck-- The GT designation for the Ford Mustang was introduced in 1965 with a specially built Mustang that was tuned by the legendary Carroll Shelby. Ford continued the GT designation through 1970, with the added "A" being the designation for automatic transmission. The GT designation was not available in 1971 and wouldn't be for another 10 years.
