What could cause oil pressure to drop to 15psi or below at idle when hot?

Asked by Pete Apr 29, 2017 at 04:17 PM about the 1975 Chevrolet Camaro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine is a 350ci from mid 70s.  Engine temp is about 180 degrees.  At idle
the oil pressure drops to 15psi or below, engine runs rough and if left alone,
will stall.  Please disregard the related car information below.  Vehicle is a
1936 Chevrolet, 2 Door Coupe.

I means the main bearings are worn. If the engine is not knocking, you could put a high volume oil pump in it to make it last a bit longer until you get to rebuilding the engine.
