Can a split vacuum line on the EGR valve cause it to clog and cause misfire.

Asked by Trentosis Oct 07, 2015 at 01:29 PM about the 2001 Subaru Outback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Discovered ,shortly after a misfire, that my vacuum line attached to the EGR valve had split on the EGR side. I fixed the vacuum line and I am no longer getting a misfire when it idles, only in 3rd and 4th gear when I accelerate. I feel like the EGR valve sucked up some crap and is not functioning efficiently. Does this sound right?

yes and still could have a vacuum leak, base gasket or bad diaphragm...with the car in drive, brake on and idle..spray some carb cleaner around the vac lines and at the egr all around and under the top and see if the idle changes... gasket, vacuum hose/vacuum diaphragm
