why does my 2006 Pontiac grand prix make a loud schreeching noise when driving straight seems to do this after car is driven for awhile

often a scheeching sound is the serpentine belt. Either loose from bad tensioner or one of the components driven by it is freezing up, and is screaming from friction on pulley

Serpentine belt or an accesory driven by it is the likely cause (as FORDNUT said). However, if it s not an engine noise, could it be a brake hanging up and not releasing on one wheel?
