You should read the owners manual. If your new BMW needs coolant I would take it straight to your dealer for repairs.

Well, if you have 2-3 hours to wait at the dealer so a pint of coolant can be added. I have found this is something no one wants to talk about, but it is simple. Just buy a liter of coolant at the Dealership. Their coolant has to be mixed 50/50 with water. I emptied half of the coolant into and empty quart jar and marked it as raw coolant and put in the garage. I filled the Liter coolant container to the top with water. When you open the coolant cap located near the drivers window and of course under the hood you can look down the filling compartment with a flashlight. If you have been getting a warning about low coolant, you will notice the coolant is below the long tube you have to look through. Just add coolant half way up the tub. The reason I say this (because no one will tell you) is that the first time I had the top off at the dealer, I looked down the tube and it was at the half way mark. You will find that your Coolant Low Warning light comes on when only a pint to two low. Very sensitive thing. I have to add coolant about every six months. Annoying I must say. I now just carry the liter container in the trunk. Bottom line, just do not panic when you get the low coolant light. If like me, the light goes out after I stop and start and am told that the fluid has expanded with driving and makes it safe and normal. The issue is that when it sits over night, it drains in the reservoir below the senor.

The reason I said take it to the dealer is the coolant level should not be dropping. If it keeps dropping there is a problem.

As I know , all turbo 3 liters need coolant somehow. I had to add it at the dealer once in a while. Not a bad thing it is a BMW habit. I have 740i, and overall OK car. I am happy. Have some issues though, car heats and cools the seat same time! if you press both buttons. Trunk lid doesn't open all the time gets stuck. Engine light came on, but all systems are OK . Passenger seat once in a while gives a seatbelt warning even there is nobody. They changed the socket but keeps doing it. Other than that great car :)) We also have Lexus RX350 and there is zero issues with anything.
