I have a 2015 Mercedes 220E cabriolet from new and it came fitted with 19”
amg wheels and very low profile tyres. I have had to replace the front wheel
tyres a few times with exactly the same size tyre, as if you touch a pavement
it traps and cuts the side of the tyre as the wheel appears to overhang the
tyre. Could I fit a slightly wider tyre to try to overcome this problem without
affecting the performance or economy too much.
It sounds like you've always had the wrong size tire on the car. Go to a tire professional and have the rims/tires checked. When tires are too narrow for the rims, the edge of the rim acts like a knife edge cutting into the tire sidewall when the tire is compressed on bumps.
