Rough Idle on my Dodge Grand Caravan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan has 142,000 miles and it has started a rough
idle. The engine light is on and the code is 0P300 which is cylinder misfire. I
took it to the dealership they replaced the spark plugs, wires etc. and did a tune
up. $736 later my engine light is still on and it is still idling rough. Any ideas for
me?

Yeah , stay away from the dealer . Things need to be tested and diagnosed before replacing parts . A shot of carb cleaner down the throttle may have helped or a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas . The condition of the plugs may have given an indication . You could have gotten plugs and wires for under $100** , I think .

You got screwed. This is a stealership so your not going to get any satisfaction from them now that they have your money, you can try taking it back but most likely you will just get the run around. This really sounds like a basic engine problem and nothing electronic. That’s the problem with todays shops, no one was to spend any time digging a little too find the actual problem.

If the dealer also replaced the coils. you've probably eliminated spark as a cause. Next would be clogged & leaking injectors. Or maybe sensor problems; cam and crank, etc. It takes diagnostics skills to narrow this down and you've found that your dealer has none. Try a fuel system cleaner; maybe Seafoam. If that doesn't do it, take the van to an independent mechanic.

Code P0300 is random/multi cylinder misfire. Fuel pressure should have been checked. A live data scan should have been done to see what's going on with the sensors, such as the MAF, for example. The fuel injectors should have been checked. Hopefully they checked the ignition coils as part of the tune up. If not, they need to do that too. Personally I'd take it back to them and have them make it right. Hope that helps! Jim

Thank you all. I did take it back and they have it. If they can’t figure it out this time I’ll definitely be taking it elsewhere.
