Cooling Fan Mercedes C class 180 Executive

Asked by GuruBD12P Dec 07, 2018 at 05:19 AM about the 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Question type: General

We have just bought a Mercedes , and the temperature gauge was showing
high 120 occasionally  and the fan was kicking in . We took it back and they
have replaced the thermostat  .  We have just got the car back , and noticed
yesterday after only a 15 min drive when we stopped the car, that the fan
was going again very loud . It did stop when the key was taken out the
ignition . The the guage is not showing high anymore !! Please help is this
normal for this car  or have we bought a bad car ,  The Research I have
done isn't helping  us . We have never owned a car where you can here the
fan when standing outside the car ?

I have heard many a fan running while outside a vehicle. Not sure what your definition of loud is? Give us a decibel rating so we know normal vs needing repair.

Hard really . Just a normal fan sound , It doesn't sound wrong just quite loud , This is the newest car we have owned so perhaps we are just not used of it , and i have never noticed a loud fan going while stationary with any of our much older cars before . it's going on and off at random ,everything else now seems fine no overheating , Just wondered if this is what a Mercedes fan is meant to do !! (Never had one before ) Should it start and stop even in Winter and short journeys ? we can't really hear it while driving it's only noticeable when the car stops ,and does stop as soon as we take keys out , Havn't a clue if this is Normal for the car or not . Any C180 Mercedes owners out here please advise !! Thank you , only had it for 2 Weeks and we do like it ,drives well too just a little worried about the fan issue ,

I just had the same experience with a 2019 C220d. Driving normally (70 km/h) for 20 km, engine temperature 90, outside 5. When I stopped the engine the fan started and ran for 2 minutes, then I started the engine again, the fan stopped, I stopped the engine, the fan started and ran for 2 minutes, then stopped. A bit weird behavior.

This is a old post but maybe my answer will help others, thats not normal...since they replaced the thermostat that vehicle was not bled completely, it has air in the system and needs to be properly bled.
