Heater issue passenger side blows cold air

Asked by James Mar 14, 2018 at 12:43 AM about the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've recently purchased a 2013 Dodge Avenger,
118k miles. I feel heat coming from the vent near
the driver side window. The middle vents along
with the passenger side window vent only blows
almost a/c cool air. I've researched several
websites, concluding that the heater issue may be
a manufacturer defect. Any advice on fixing this
issue?

The problem is the heater core is mounted at about a 30 degree angle with the hoses on the bottom. This allows any air in the system to accumulate at the top, effectively reducing the usable size of the heater core. The way I solved the problem was to jack the drivers side as high as possible and removed the upper (as they come through the firewall) heater hose and inserted a funnel. Then I removed the air bleed screw on the thermostat housing. I refilled the coolant system through the heater hose/funnel. Once coolant began to flow from the air bleed without air I replaced that screw. I started the engine and continued to fill until coolant flowed from the heater pipe where I had removed the hose and then capped the pipe with my thumb. I continued to attempt to fill the heater hose, holding it as high as possible. When I could not fill any more, I reinstalled the hose as quickly as possible to allow as little air as possible from reentering the system. I filled the coolant reservoir, and continued to get the engine to normal operating temperature and ensured the reservoir was appropriately filled. Keep in mind that any time the system is opened or leaking, the symptoms will return until as much of the air is removed from the system again.

I have a 2013 Dodge avenger V6 with 76000 miles on it and I have the same issue. How do we make Chrysler take care of this at no charge. They should handle it because it can be a danger when driving in the winter and windshield fogs up or water freezes to ice when driving in very cold temps. I'm calling Department of Transportation this week to talk with someone about this issue since it doesn't seem like the corporation is going to do a recall.

I have a 2011 Dodge Avenger SXT that blows cold air on the passager side vents and defrost vent. I had to pay the dodge dealership $1400. to fix the problem on my car. The heater core had to be replaced with a new one, plus new coolant replaced. It is a 7 hour job to do. Don't buy a Dodge ....folks :(

I have 2014 avenger and mine just came out of shop. He blew water and air through the lines going to heater core. Blowing hot air now, he said they may get clogged again. So guess we'll see how long I have good heat. Damn dodge, should be a recall..can be dangerous!

This problem happened to me at 98,000 on my 2013 Avenger. Then at 115,000 on my daughters Jeep Patriot (same design) now again on my Avenger at 215,000. Dodge dealer ship told me its a bad design and the spacing inside the core is small allowing buildup to accumulate fast. You need to flush the system annually, if not youtube has a great short cut to replace heater core without pulling dash. Otherwise get used to this repair every 3 years or 100K.

Now my 2011 Dodge Avenger SXT 2.4L engine is making a loud clicking noise inside the dash. The hot air from the heater blows sometimes in the middle vents or onto the windshield. I have to take my car into the dealership for more repairs in the dash. This is the worse car ever built on the planet. !!!! This Dodge is full of FIAT parts. Never buy one .. folks
