2007 Ford Taurus Battery shows good, but only gives one click when turning ignition key

Asked by Randigo Mar 04, 2019 at 12:14 PM about the 2007 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When we turn the key, we get one click (not a series).
We thought the battery was bad, but the store said it was reading as good.
Any thoughts on what it might be?

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Note, part of starter wiring diagram. See starter relay, unplug it, in the diagram terminal 87 is hot all the time and fuse protected. Use a test light, see if that terminal cavity is hot, if so, use jumper wire between 87 and 30 cavities. The starter motor should crank the engine. If you try that, make sure transaxle/ transmission is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. If no starter motor reaction, may have to remove starter motor. Lay it on the ground, hook up jumper cables properly from starter motor to battery, voltage and ground. At the least, the starter motor should kick out the drive gear and spin. Some of the national brand auto stores will test starter motor for you, if it comes to that. Some ford Taurus, the security system will disable starter motor. Any applicable trouble codes? Good voltage and good grounds are important.
