Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am buying a 2004 hyndai sonata today.  It is a 2004 with 70,000 miles which i negotiated a price of $6,400.  The lady has all the
service records and followed the maintenance recommendations.

My anxiety comes from the fact that for the last 20 years I've only driven either toyotas or hondas.  I really wanted to buy a toyota or
honda because I've had such good luck with them.  However, I have a fixed budget and this seemed like a really fantastic buy.  For
the same amount of money i can only find Corollas and Civics that are around the years of 2000 or 2001 if I look for similar miles,
or sometimes 2002 but usually with high miles.

Edmunds and jd powers seemed to have good comments and so did consumer reports.

What can those of you that have driven toyotas and hondas AND a 2004 Sonata tell me - how did the experience compare?

As a mechanic, I would recommend another corolla. That being said, the only time I have seen major problems with Hyundais is when they were not taken car of. If the price is right, records available, the body is clean, and it drives good with no concerning noises, go for it.
