2010 chevy cobalt shuddering?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

about a month ago, i noticed my 2010 chevy cobalt was shaking forward
and back (not side to side) which i later found out that means it is
"shuddering". it would drive fine then the check engine light would come on
and it'd instantly drive rough. however if the check engine light was not on it
would be okay.

it was around the time i got an oil change at a chevy dealership and they
wrote on the paper work that there was an oil seal leak and the
transmission needs serviced. My husband went this particular time and
they never explained what they meant by that so i called. They said service
transmission just meant check engine light was on and needs to be

after doing some searching myself, my husband replaced the fuel filter (it
was long over due) and spark plugs ( i have 88xxx miles on it). he also
added a quart of transmission fluid.

the problem was still there. a little better but not really. i found out there
was a possibility it was low on transmission fluid so according to the
internet my car holds 6.9 qts of fluid. i have now put in 5 qts along with a qt
of transmission conditioner. it has gotten better day by day however today
after driving for an hr at 35-65 mph then parking and shutting it off for an hr
and driving again for another half hr through town it started to run a little
rough but no where near like it was before. then during the hottest part of
the day i drove ten mins away and it was shuddering/shaking again. i
assumed it was the AC but i shut it off and it was doing it just as bad.

before adding all of the fluids it would shudder very hard even in park for
however long the car was running. this time it would do it a few times, then
stop then start again.

although it shudders, it has never stalled. i do not have poor gas mileage
and the diagnostic my dad did pulled up 2 codes for an exhaust leak. there
are no visible leaks when i am parked for a long period of time.

does anyone have any idea what else it could be?

OK, so you need to fix the car to get the CEL to go off. There are fault codes stored which is causing your car to shutter. Might also be transmission codes. What were the 4 digit codes? I'd have it properly diagnosed instead of guessing and throwing parts at it. Adding that much trans fluid indicated a leak , or is it mixing with the coolant? One way to tell is if the coolant is a 'pink milkshake.'
