1999 Ford Ranger Will Not Turn Over

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6. When I went to start it, it ran for a split
second, then shut off. Since then, when I turn the key, I only get one click (I
think it's coming from my ECM relay), but all of my accessories/lights still
work. I had O'Reilly test my starter and they said it's good. I bought a Chilton's
and it told me to check my starter solenoid between the battery and fuse box,
but I can't find the solenoid anywhere under the hood (see picture, those
disconnected wires are for the lightbar). So I tried to bypass the starter
mounted coil/solenoid (I'm not sure) with a screwdriver, but that just gave me a
pop, some sparks, and everything electrical in my truck shut off. So then I
reset the battery cables and all accessories came back on. I checked each of
my relays/fuses with a multimeter and they all seem to be in working order. I'm
not sure what to do or where to go next?

make sure the batt terminals are tight and the batt is charged , see if it's the starter/solenoid that's clicking or if it's getting power when you hit the key , solenoid is usually on the starter and there may be a relay
