where is the dipstick on a 99 ford contour

When you look under the hood look for a yellow handle on the top of the dipstick. There usually located right next to the engine or right on top like some of the new cars and trucks have.
sometimes there is a coolant hose over it .... crazy engineers messed up a few things with this design like when you remove the oil filter it dumps the oil on the converter on the 2.5L v-6 model and the 5th gear is revving 3000rpm @ 68mph I had a Pontiac Grand Am before this car and at top speed it did 3500rpm @108mph..... Spells out 33MPG for the GM Vehicle and 24MPG for the Ford! Both traveling @ 67MPH
The dipstick is in the center of the engine next to the rocker cover

It has a yellow T-handle and near the center of the valvecover.
