I called ford dealer< told my 2000 explorer didn t have the theft ignition.
Had bought new ignition, lock smith made some keys for it. I installed it, will turn , fuel pump on for a second , wont start. theft light blinks fast.
Your dealer doesn't know what they are talking about. Try another dealer.
If you have a security light the you have anti thieft system. Very few vehicles made do not have this system. The bad news now is it will take a dealer to reset the system, and don't use the same dealer you talked too. Another option is if you have one of those really smart locksmiths in your area, he will have the equipment to cut the correct chip type key, reprogram the system to reconise that key and have you back on the road, but they are few and far between.
You must purchase a cylinder and keys with a chip inside. Once installed the system must be programmed via a device most locksmiths have which plugs into the PCM under the dash. NOTE: On the 99 model when programming is conducted the doors must be in the closed position and cycled through the unlock/lock for programming to be successful. If a door is left open during the programming steps it will not be successful.
Thanks for info, tried another dealer, they said bring it in for reprogramming.
