distributer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My brother and I are rebuilding a 1974 cj5 with a 304cm 5.0L V8 engine. We took the distributor out and was going to replace it and once we got it in, the jeep wouldn't start.  Does anyone have any advice at what we can do as like firing order and we can get it working?

Not to familure with that kind of vehicle but in general, you r saying you took the distributor out and put a new one back on? do you have the firing order and cylinder number identification?

Set it to top dead center. Then re-install the distributor so the rotor is just before the first firing cylinders contact. It should run enough to get a timing light on it and set it.
