Where's the voltage regulator located?

Usually on on the side near the engine ... it should be a square box about 3"x6" Try to follow the smaller wires coming from the Alternator/generator

thank you, but I feel the regulator was removed from my Karmann by the previous owner. Cables going to the voltage regulator are cut. I'm now replacing the complete wiring assembly but do not know where to place the voltage regulator
