Originally, the PT Cruiser was to come out as a Plymouth product. It was originally to be short for "Plymouth Truck" or "Plymouth Transport". It's also a slight abbreviation of the original show car prototypes called the PRONTO Cruiser. When Daimler bought Chrysler (and ruined a great company), they got rid of the Plymouth brand and so the Cruiser was then shuffled into the Chrysler family - to become the "entry level" Chrysler. At that point, it was then changed to mean "Personal Transport"...

I think it stands for Poor Transmission since the auto's are weak. After 3 transmissions @ 71,000 Miles.. yep.. that's what mine stands for anyways lol...

pt actually stands for panel truck for chrysler's got the design for the pt cruise from the old 1950-60"s panel trucks

My last car was a Porsche. So right now for a Temporary cruiser. PT stands for (P) orsche (T) emporary cruiser.
