If you are getting a white smoke, then it could the head gasket, if not there is a few other things that could cause over heating...if the fans do not come on when the car reaches temperature could cause the car to overheat. The water pump could be bad, if its not turning and circulating water through the system the car will overheat. A bad cap could cause over heating...if the vent is clogged in a closed system could cause over heating...
