The easiest way to do this is replace the lock cylinder. It's probably been replaced at least once before so the original key code won't be much good anyhow. Now comes the tricky part. Your Cadillac has GMs VATS security system. There were 15 key chip possibilities. You must find out which chip you had and get the correct key blank so the security system will recognize the new key and allow the car to start and run. The template key that comes with the new lock cylinder is for cutting the key blank so you can turn the ignition on. Without the correct key chip the car won't start. Find out if the shop you choose has the ability to go into the security system and determine which key blank you need BEFORE taking your car there. Personally I'd take it to the local Chevrolet Dealer. Don't bother with the Cadillac Dealer. It's 20 years old. They won't go near it. Chevy Dealers aren't as snooty. HTH. -Jim
