Fuel injected vs. carbureted 302 CID V8
My 1984 Grand Marquis LS was unquestionably built in Canada and is therefore supposed to have a 155 hp 302 CID V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. However, the vehicle's engine has throttle body fuel injection like the US version (and accompanying "Electronic Fuel Injection" plaques), but it's still rated at 155 hp instead of 140, as it should be. It has a single exhaust, too. I'm puzzled.
If a vehicle is built to be sold in the United States it will be built to U.S. specs. My '86 C10 pick up was built in Canada but conformed to U.S. safety, emissions, etc. standards. Same with say a BMW. They're built in Germany but in order for them to be sold in the U.S. they must meet U.S. standards or they won't make it through customs. HTH. -Jim
