Have 86 sprint plus automatic will start with no problem but not idle properly or stay on when driven it has power and drives ok take foot off gas starts hesitating and dies restarts hot or cold.
Problem. Is this just carbureator problem or
something else or a combination of things,
what can I try. Is there a mechanic in new
York city area who I can trust who knows
my car and can diagnosis and repair based
on testing and not a shotgun approach and
guessing what is wrong. I have already had
people who are not familiar with the car
guess and just waste money. Please help!
Love this car when it runs right. Has new
tires, brakes, alternator, rebuilt starter. Also
car will go foward in neutral. Does it need a
cable adjustment or is the car going to be a
money pit. Car has low mileage and
otherwise excellent shape. No rust.
I just had two guys tear into my engine like I didn’t know how to adjust timing. I just put in a new distributor, timing was spot on, TDC. My son thought I might have needed help (without asking, and while I was at work) they “fixed” my ‘87 turbo Sprint. Put it 180 out and bent a rod. Then had the audacity to say it was like that. I started it about 5 times while it sat for three weeks, no prob. Started, never hesitated, as soon as I touch the accelerator, it would die, now… I just cried, It is NOT a money pit, easy to keep up, I know nothing about fuel injection, or turbo, this is my second, my other was carburetor, non turbo. I have 478,000 plus miles on this one, almost 300,000 miles before I wrecked my first about 15 yrs ago. I'm in WA state, so answer to money pit... my two have not been.
